How to Become A Pilot In South Africa
A step by step guide for students from India…
Many students are lost… confused between countries, steps and schools. Here is the exact route, no confusion
Step One
Eligibility Check
– Grade 12 with Physics & Maths (NIOS is accepted)
– Or Grade 10 + Diploma
– Age 17+
– Valid Passport
– English to pass your English Proficiency Exam in South Africa
– No need for NEET/JEE or college admission
Step Two
Medical and Exams
– Class 1 DGCA Medical
– Apply for Computer Number (3-4 weeks)
– Pass Air Regulations, Meteorology & Navigation Exams
Step Three
Visa Process
– Fill in the Enrolment Form and email it to apply@flylfc.com with a copy of your passport
– You will need medical insurance for the duration of your course – request the forms and scan back to us
– Pay required deposit so you can show proof of payment to the embassy
– On receipt of the above we will pay for your medical insurance and send you acceptance letter and a student number
– When you receive the documents, you take them to the South African Embassy and submit them. The Embassy will issue your Student Visa in approximately 4 weeks.
– When you have your Visa, let us know your arrival date and send us a copy of your flight ticket.
– You are approved and ready to fly.
– LFC will meet you at the airport and start your training.
Step Four
Fly To South Africa
– 200 hours of real-time flying at Lanseria Flight Centre
(Cessna/Piper/Diamond)
– Top weather + no airspace congestion = faster hours
– Real ATC, stalls, emergencies, cross-country flying
– Best airport for training and over 200 aerodromes country-wide
– Finish SA CAA CPL within 12 – 15 months
Step Five
Conversion
– Renew medical (20 days)
– Convert SA CAA RT to DGCA RT (28 days)
– Apply for Indian FRTOL (28 days)
– Complete 4 checks at Indian FTO (15 days)
– Submit SA Logbook & Licence to DGCA
Step Six
Get Job-Ready
– Apply for Airline Openings in India
– Option to stay in South Africa and complete Grade 3 Instructor Rating
– Explore other career paths – Charter Pilot, Business Jet Pilot
