Lanseria Flight Centre established in 1989 and is a leading flight training organisation in South Africa. We have an excellent record with local and foreign students who complete their flying in a reasonable time frame and to a recognised high global training standard.

How much does it cost to get my pilot’s licence?
Affordability: Flight training in South Africa costs less than UK, EU, USA, Australia, New Zealand and the UAE training rates. Importantly, every graduate leaves LFC skilled, competent and confident in their flying ability.
What is it like to train in South Africa?

Exposure to International and Domestic Traffic: LFC students at Grand Central Airport get greater exposure to Air Traffic and varied experience of flying throughout South Africa 200 airports.

Grand Central Airport: offers dedicated training aerodrome with no delays for airliners and immediate access to the GF area – no need to fly far to the GF area.

Weather: Grand Central in Johannesburg offers more than 360 days of excellent flying weather, has no coastal weather interference.

Is training in South Africa recognised worldwide?

World-class Training: Despite affordable costs, training standard is exceptionally high, and LFC in South Africa has an excellent reputation with the top airlines.
ICAO Recognition: SA CAA is ICAO approved. This makes easy for SA CPL pilots to convert their CPLs to other CPLs world-wide.

What work can a pilot do after a SA CAA CPL?

Instructor Opportunities: LFC CPL Graduates may work as instructors after completing their Pilot Training and completing their Instructor Rating. These pilots gain valuable experience while furthering their own skills and building flying hours.

Direct Entry into Airlines: some airlines recruit low hour CPL students as second or first officer depending on demand and their recruiting requirements.

What aircraft do pilots train on?

The LFC fleet consists of various aircraft including Cessna 172, Cessna 182, Cessna 210, Beechcraft Duchess, Piper Seneca, Beechcraft Baron 58, Piper Navajo, Cessna Caravan, and Diamond DA42.

We also pride ourselves in being able to offer Multi Engine Glass Cockpit training. At LFC we have a desire to deliver the highest quality products and services to the industry.

How long does it take to get a commercial pilot’s licence?

At LFC diligent full-time capable students can complete their ME IR CPL in 12 months. UK, EU, USA flight students are completing their licences in 18 months and more due to weather, aircraft availability and number of students enrolled.

How long does it take to get a private pilot’s licence?

At LFC diligent full-time capable students can complete their PPL in 3-5 months. These pilots can fly for hobby, fun, friends and family but cannot receive remuneration.

Do I need to do a PPL in order to do a CPL?

Yes, a PPL is the starting point of any flying career.

What can I learn to be a pilot in South Africa?

Ideally you need 65% in G12 maths, English and physics. When you apply to LFC please submit your G12 results and we may consider your application based on marks, and interview looking at diligence, passion and dedication to obtaining your CPL.

Where can I learn to be a pilot in South Africa?

Ideally you want to choose an airport best suited to pilot training operations with really close proximity to the GF area. You don’t want airliner delays and incur costs holding at the threshold.

Remember the student pays from startup and they need to be in the sky, not holding on the runway. Also changeable weather from coastal airports create big delays.

Is 40 years old too old to fly?

Provided you pass a class one medical exam you are eligible to start pilot training.

Whats the cheapest way to learn to fly?
