Ground School covers comprehensive training manuals and dedicated lecturers for all the theoretical aviation subjects required to obtain the Private Pilot Licence, Commercial Pilot Licence and Airline Transport Pilot Licence.
Ground School
Our theoretical courses are vital for a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical knowledge required that will be the foundation for the rest of your flying career.
The PPL lectures are conducted in blocks and run throughout the year, a new subject will commence every Monday during the block.
The CPL lectures are normally conducted 3 times a year and the ATPL lectures twice a year as required.
Lectures for the various courses are usually presented during the evenings and over weekends to accommodate professional students who need to maximize their flying time during the day and to accommodate part-time students.
The manuals used in our lectures are the most up to date and supported by additional aviation literature and Powerpoint presentations.
Our high pass rate at the SACAA examinations is a tribute to our lectures and training manuals.
COURSE Content
The subjects covered for the various courses includes the following:
- Aviation Law
- Principles of Flight
- Meteorology
- Aircraft Technical and General
- Radio Telephony
- Navigation
- Human Performance
- Flight Planning and performance
The Student is required to write and pass theoretical examinations for every subject and each for course undertaken.
An in depth knowledge is vital and the pass mark for the examinations is a minimum of 75%.
PPL examinations are conducted in our own SACAA approved examination centre. The CPL and ATPL examinations are conducted at the SACAA examination centre.

Flight Training programmes
Private Pilot Licence
Whether you plan on flying purely for pleasure or a career, you have to start at the beginning. The Private Pilot’s Licence is where your adventure in aviation starts.
Commercial Pilot Licence
A commercial pilot’s licence is the last phase of a series of training modules to be completed before you can submit your licence to the SACAA and finally receive your Commercial Pilot’s Licence.
Frozen ATPL Licence
A Frozen ATPL License is when a candidate currently has a Commercial Pilots Licence with an Instrument Rating and has completed their exams towards their Airline Transport Pilots Licence.
EASA Frozen ATPL License
Progress with little or no previous flying experience from Private Pilot’s License to a Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL) level with ‘frozen ATPL’ and Multi-Engine (ME) Instrument rating (IR) in approximately 15 months.
Ground School
Lanseria Flight Centre offers comprehensive training required to obtain the Private Pilot’s Licence, Commercial Pilot’s Licence and Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence.
Night Rating
A night rating allows you to act as pilot in command of an aircraft after sunset until sunrise giving you more flexibility to adapt your time schedules after dark or early morning.
Instructor Rating
An instructor’s rating will give you the edge over a pilot who does not have the rating, providing you with one more avenue that you can use to gain hours and experience. It also adds experience and value to your CV and career in aviation.
International Students
We offer Pilot Training for International Students. We have an excellent reputation for training students from all over the world as far afield as the Middle East, Asia, most countries in Europe and Africa, North and South America.
