CPL: Where the journey really begins
A CPL with Multi-Engine & Instrument Rating isn’t the finish line.
It’s the entry point to airline preparation.
Typical CPL duration abroad:
• 12–14 months when training is structured properly
• Includes dual & solo flying (±200 total hours)
• Written exams and practical tests
• LFC will assist you with Medicals, visas, payments and admin before arrival to avoid any delays
Some students should plan a buffer of up to 3 months, depending on ability, consistency, and work ethic. Progress is earned, not rushed.
DGCA Conversion: Planning makes or breaks this phase
When planned properly, DGCA conversion usually takes 3–4 months after CPL.
This includes:
• DGCA exams
• FRTOL & RTR
• Medicals
• Document verification
Here’s the part many don’t realise:
one paperwork mistake can cause long delays, which often leads to recency lapses — costing time, money, and momentum.

The expensive chapter: Type Rating + Interview Prep
This is where preparation matters most.
• 4–6 months including simulator training, CRM, SOPs, LOFT
• Approx. ZAR 300,000, depending on aircraft type
